Local first. Live only when needed.
Searching and scanning use your local Firestorm inventory. Cache Compass connects to Second Life only for approved live inventory actions.
Search or scan locally
Search your personal inventory or scan selected cleanup categories locally. Nothing moves in Second Life during scanning.
Review everything
Inspect every proposed cleanup item and uncheck anything you want to keep before a live action is allowed.
Run the Safety Test
Cache Compass opens a temporary Second Life session, verifies the account, moves one reviewed item to Trash, verifies the move, and disconnects.
Confirm in Firestorm
Open Firestorm, inspect Trash, and confirm the Safety Test moved exactly what you expected before Move Files unlocks.
Move approved items
Cache Compass rechecks approved items, moves them to Second Life Trash, and disconnects. It never empties Trash for you.
PRIVACY & SAFETY BY DESIGN
Search stays local. Live credentials are never retained.
Search Only does not log into Second Life. A Second Life login is requested only for Safety Test, Move Files, or Restore Items. Your password is used only to establish that temporary Second Life session and is not saved to disk, written to Cache Compass reports or logs, or retained after the login attempt.
During a live action, Cache Compass connects separately from Firestorm as an inventory-focused third-party client. Your avatar may briefly appear online at its last in-world location, and Cache Compass disconnects when the operation is finished.

Do I log into Second Life through Cache Compass?
Not for Search Only or local scanning. A Second Life login is requested only when Cache Compass needs to perform a live inventory action such as Safety Test, Move Files, or Restore Items. The password is used for that session and is not stored or retained by Cache Compass.
Is Cache Compass another Second Life viewer?
No. It is not a general-purpose viewer. You continue to use Firestorm normally. For approved live inventory actions, Cache Compass temporarily connects to Second Life as an inventory-focused third-party client and disconnects when the operation is complete.
Can I use Cache Compass just for search?
Yes. Search is designed as a standalone, non-destructive option for residents who mainly want faster and more flexible inventory discovery.
What duplicate types does Cache Compass support?
The current cleanup set includes landmarks, notecards, objects, folders, empty folders, calling cards, sounds, animations, and gestures.
What happens to no-copy items?
Cache Compass is designed to treat no-copy inventory conservatively and protect it from duplicate cleanup workflows.
Is Cache Compass affiliated with Linden Lab or Firestorm?
No. Cache Compass is an independent third-party companion utility and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Linden Lab or the Firestorm Viewer project.
